Transpobank MaDCrow’s project leader, acquired its know-how in satellite systems and AVL real-time tracking during more than twenty years of experience. Thanks to this technological background Transpobank has developed an IT and TLC architecture that triggers data collection process through innovative GPS/Glonass multisensor devices installed on vessels.
The system geolocates the boat in real time, increasing its safety at sea, acquires several water’s chemical-physical parameters and transmits them to the company data centre located in AREA Science Park R&D laboratory. Here the data receive a first check to be then made available to the IT of OGS.
Close synergy among MaDCrow partners creates a driving force for the increasement of the data information at each step, in order to provide the final user, private citizen or public institutions, with several indicators about the health of the sea.
The Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica e di Geofisica Sperimentale – OGS (National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics) is involved within the project both in the scientific validation of methods, protocols and systems, and – in collaboration with the other beneficiaries – in the hardware and software development.
The OGS contribution was articulated in an in-depth study of the physical, chemical and biological parameters relevant to the proposed system, of the possible sensors that could detect them and of their limits, followed by the development of sensors and black boxes.
The Department of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Trieste (DIA-UNITS) has dealt with the analysis of the effects of the acquisition and use of marine data according to the crowdsourcing method established by the project, of the data analysis according to innovative data mining modalities, of the decision support systems (DSS), and the study of the shape of the container of sensors as much as possible in line with modern trends in naval design, so that it can be installed on board of any type of vessel, from the research vessel to the private yacht.
